You & I corresponded a bit back in July (see "replacement pipe" post). I ordered the parts you suggested (ok, I'm slow) but am just getting around to install (thanks to colder weather). When I examined the muffler, there is a disclaimer that says DO NOT PUT THIS ON A BIKE MADE AFTER 1989 (Noise emission violation & federal violations, etc.). My Savage is a '98. I have not installed the muffler, or shield, yet. Will this part cause any harm to the bike? Is it strictly an issue with noise? There does not seem to be many baffles in this muffler as I can almost see straight through it. My original intent was to replace the muffler (stock) since the previous owner had knocked all the baffles out and I am having issues with backfiring (on deceleration, even with the white spacer removed). Did I order the correct materials or did we get our wires crossed with the recommendations? Before I install, should I order soemthing different from Whitney? Your help (or another nice person on this site) is greatly appreciated!
